Downtown Walnut Creek is increasingly becoming more high-rise, urbanized and impersonal. Our wonderful little neighborhood is surrounded by properties zoned for high-rise, high-density development. Someday we could become enveloped by 50-foot-tall, apartment and condo complexes right across our back fences - eliminating our privacy, our sense of openness, and in some cases maybe even our sunlight.
General Plan 2025 addresses some of the issues relating to development around us. It refers (somewhat vaguely) to "transition zones" and proposes that additional Design Review consideration (as yet undefined) be given to proposed developments around the perimeter of our neighborhood.
