Our Neighborhood

The Almond/Shuey is one of Walnut Creek's oldest neighborhoods, with some homes dating back to the 1920's . We are located right across California Boulevard from the old downtown, within walking distance of all the downtown shopping and dining amenities, the Lesher Center for the Arts, BART and the Broadway Shopping Center.

The neighborhood features mature tree-lined streets with a mixture of single family homes and duplexes. Many of the original homes are two bedroom, one bath cottages on small lots. Most feature front porches and lawns, lending a friendly, open, welcoming feel to the neighborhood.

But outside of our charming little neighborhood, the rest of downtown Walnut Creek is rapidly becoming vertical and urbanized. All of the land surrounding our neighborhood is zoned for high density use. Development pressures are pushing in from all sides.

Ours was one of two neighborhoods highlighted in the City's General Plan for its unique character - a character worth preserving. The primary focus of this website is to raise awareness of issues related to the preservation of our neighborhood's charm - and our very existence.
